CAG X Collage Collage | Pattern Puppets
For our third remote Open Studio with Erin Boniferro of Collage Collage, Erin leads us through a puppet making activity inspired by Julian Yi-Zhong Hou’s multisensory Grass Drama. From pattern to music to performance, Julian’s work brings together multiple elements to create connections between unlikely things and ideas.
Watch the video and follow along as Erin creates a puppet out of paper and cardboard. She’ll share tips and tricks for creating your own unique, layered patterns with wax crayons and watercolour paints.
We have a limited supply of free puppets kits available at the gallery. Come by to see Julian Yi-Zhong Hou’s work in person and pick one up! You can schedule a visit here. Or, gather the materials below at home to get started.
– coloured paper
– glue stick
– cardboard (corrugated works well)
– dowel stick (optional)
– watercolour paints
– wax crayons or pastels
– markers, pencils, pencil crayons (optional)
This activity is recommended for artists 3 years and up. Adult supervision is recommended for scissor work!
