WEDGE OUTPUT | Woojae Kim
Saturday, October 23, 4pm – 5pm
Sunday, October 24, 4pm – 5pm
As part of his current WEDGE residency—presented in partnership with Ground Floor—artist Woojae Kim invites participants to a brief one-on-one encounter. Welcoming guests one at a time to an outdoor space, Kim will offer participants a photograph printed on handmade incense paper coated with an original fragrance. The artwork will then be burned, releasing its scent as the artist reads a short text. Kim writes:
“The scent was made as I recalled the fear of loss I felt during the past 18 months. The fear of losing someone close. The fear of losing my sense of smell. The fear of losing my chance to say goodbye. A photograph turns to smoke releasing the embedded scent into the air. The scent goes into our nose and comes out as words.”
Each encounter will last approximately five minutes and is best experienced without a mask. All encounters will be held outdoors—rain or shine—with appropriate distancing protocols in effect. The artist is fully vaccinated.
Space is limited; pre-registration is required. To attend, please register through Eventbrite here.
Please note that registrants will need to walk to a site 300 metres from the gallery; additional details will be provided on registration. Accessibility accommodations are available; please contact [email protected] following registration.
