The CAG is the longest standing independent public art gallery dedicated to presenting contemporary visual art in Vancouver. We deliver between ten and twenty exciting exhibitions and off-site projects each year, provide an extensive range of learning and public programs for adults, families and children, offer a series of residencies for Canadian and international artists directly contributing to the local scene, and publish insightful catalogues that create a lasting legacy of exhibited work. We do this while offering all of our programs free of charge through an admission by donation policy. We believe that access to, enjoyment of and engagement with contemporary art and the surrounding debates should be available and open to all.
Each year it costs over $800,000 to run the CAG. We are a not-for-profit organization reliant upon philanthropic support to survive and succeed. The CAG receives over 65% of its annual operating budget from the private sector.
Whether you are an individual, a trust or foundation, a business or corporation, you can help us in our work. If you enjoy contemporary art and want to contribute to the vital and vibrant cultural life of the city and province through supporting the work of the CAG, then please see the links to the left for further information.
Are you interested in volunteering at the Contemporary Art Gallery? We offer many ways for you to get involved, meet new friends and learn new skills. Our volunteers provide support for visitors and special events, serve on committees, assist with curatorial and administrative work, and maintain the Abraham Rogatnick Library, amongst many other duties, and hence provide crucial support to our operation.
If you would like to volunteer, please visit the gallery to drop off your resume or email us at the contact below. Include a cover letter outlining the skills and experience you wish to share with us, as well as the goals you hope to achieve from volunteering at the CAG. Be sure to include your time availability.MORE

Our mandate is to provide a context for the work of Vancouver and Canadian artists which we achieve through juxtaposition with work of those from elsewhere. Our program encompasses local, emerging artists through to those established internationally.
Each show is different but aims to examine current issues in global contemporary visual art that has resonance at a local level. Through this we bring a breadth of exciting, insightful and meaningful ways of looking at our world to a Vancouver audience.MORE
The CAG is a place for people of all ages, backgrounds and experiences to learn about contemporary visual art and the captivating ideas it embodies. Our exhibitions and projects engage and appeal to the entire community of Vancouver and further afield; dedicated events and public programs focus on teens, schools and families; and residencies provide opportunities to nurture, support and foster connections to artists and communities alike.

The Contemporary Art Gallery is generously supported by a number of individuals and organizations. Without both private and public funds we would not be able to achieve what we do, to continue to grow and thrive as Vancouver’s longest standing independent public gallery dedicated to contemporary visual art, continuing to offer access to and enjoyment of our exhibitions, learning and public programs, residencies and outreach, all free of charge. All of our donors and members make a significant difference to what we are able to achieve.
