Ian Wallace is a local artist who, over the past three decades, has established an internationally recognized practice and has become an influential writer, teacher and critic. Wallace studied at the University of British Columbia to obtain his MA in Art History (1968). His most recent solo exhibition took place at the Charles H. Scott gallery (2005), with work referencing the aesthetic, ideological and technical relations between painting and photography. His work has been in solo exhibitions worldwide at American Fine Arts, New York, Sprengel Museum, Germany, and Art Gallery of Windsor, Ontario. He has also participated in various group exhibitions at the Vancouver Art Gallery; Museum Van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen, Belgium; Musee d’Art Modern et Contemporain, Geneva; Zerynthia, Rome; and IVAM, Spain.
