Kerstin Cmelka (Austrian, b.1958) is a visual artist based in Berlin. She works primarily with photography, video and performance. Her recent series, Micro Dramas, is a collection of dramatic excerpts from well-known theatre and folk plays. For this body of work, Cmelka uses a cast of amateur performers, mainly herself and friends, to perform theatrical shorts, scenes from popular feature films and comedy sketches for videos and performances. Her photographs regularly reference film and art performance stills.
