Eli Langer rose to fame in 1993, when his exhibit at the Mercer Union in Toronto prompted the Morality Bureau of the Metropolitan Toronto Police to remove 5 paintings and 35 drawings from the exhibit. Born in Montreal in 1967, Langer has been exhibiting both internationally and within Canada, including solo exhibitions at Daniel Hug in Los Angeles (2006), Paul Petro Contemporary Art in Toronto and the Helen Pitt Gallery in Vancouver (2001). He has also participated in various group exhibitions, such as The Truth about Los Angeles at Petro Contemporary Art in 2005 and Barristers Gallery in New Orleans (2000). He received the Canada Council B Grant in 1995, 1996 and 1998, as well as the Ontario Arts Council Award in 1993, 1994, and 1996. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
