Kika Thorne

Kika Thorne is a Performance and Video artist, curator, researcher, writer, editor, and cultural activist. Thorne graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design in Media Production and Cultural Theory in 1990. Thorne’s video work has been screened both nationally and internationally in various galleries, museums, and festivals such as the International Cinema Museum in Chicago; Mix in New York; Mostros des Videos – International Experimental T.V. in Barcelona; the Dunlop Art Gallery in Regina; and the Power Plant in Toronto. In 1997, Thorne collaborated with Adrian Blackwell to produce Mattress City, a documentation of a 24-hour protest of homelessness by which participating artists and architects lay their mattresses down in a public square. The project was conceived by the February Group and received the Telefilm Canada Award on closing night. Thorne is also a recipient of Images Film Festival Award, the Ontario Arts Council Award, and the Toronto Arts Council Award. She is currently based in Vancouver.
