Denise Oleksijczuk is a local artist and art historian. She acquired a PhD in art history from the University of British Columbia, and is currently teaching at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. Oleksijczuk has curated exhibitions at the Vancouver Art Gallery and published essays and reviews on contemporary and historical art. She also contributed to Stan Douglas’ monograph Every Building on 100 Block West Hasting Street published by the Contemporary Art Gallery (2003). Her book, The First Panoramas: Vision, the Body and British Imperialism, 1787-1820, is forthcoming from the University of Minnesota Press. She has recently exhibited in Classified Materials: Accumulations, Archives, Artists at the Vancouver Art Gallery (2005) and Hurry Slowly at the Or Gallery (2004).
