Lee Lozano

Lee Lozano (U.S.A.,1930-1999) used the framework of both conceptual and performance art, building a practice over a short period (1961-1971) before a self-imposed exile from the New York art world with the work entitled Dropout Piece. Her disdain for the transparent hypocrisy of the art world culminated in radical and public withdrawal from attending functions to distancing herself from the Art Workers Coalition to finally her August 1971 boycott of women which lasted until her death in 1999.
